knows ''s 1-10 ( he knows way more but that is all they tested on )
( I just wrote word for word from the letter that was sent home )
We assessed Brandon on skills that are important early building blocks for reading. These are skills that we work on daily in our classroom. Below are Brandon''s results.
* Letter Naming Fluency: Brandon was given a page with letters and asked to name each one. This measures helps tell us if Brandon is likely to struggle or be a successful reader in the future. Brandon''s score of 35 correct letters named in a minute is well above the score of 8 that is expected at this time of year. We will continue to work on this skill so that he continues to do well.
* Initial Sound Fluency: Brandon was shown a page of pictues and told the name of each picture ( examples: dog, bicycle, house, tree ). Brandon was asked to point or name the picture that begins with a certain sound. He was also asked to tell the beginning sound in a number of words. For example, we might ask Brandon to say the first sound in the word " fan ", This test tell us if Brandon is aware of the different sounds in words. This is called phonemic awareness. Brandon''s score of 22 initial sounds in a minute is well above the score 8 that is expected at this time of year.
I am so proud of my kindergarten for doing so well in school!
